New Project

As is the case in most things I have found that if something has visibility, it forces the individual to stay with it. So this is my way of forcing myself to remain "true" to my new project.

Most that know me are aware that I retired from the Army back in 2003. After a 20 yr career which kept me physically active, I relished the idea of no mandatory exercise. Now I am paying the price. Sooo, with the prelude in place away let me get to the meat of this.

I have regained my old interest in exercise and the "natural high" it produces. What I have found is that while the mind is fully committed, my body is rebeling. Too many years of carrying a rucksack and jumping out of airplanes. To combat the joint pain, lower back pain, and the even larger issue all the excess weight (I have easily gained over 50lbs since I retired from the Army).

Jumping on the old mountain bike (MTB) was a good alternative to the jogging, but it still felt like something was lacking. Started loooking around and found something that interested me, a recumbent trike. So for now I keep riding my MTB while I search for one of those that is within my price range. Yeah those pesky things are a bit expensive, $1500 for a new entry level one. Well outside of what I am willing to spend.

I will continue to update my trike hunting exerience, mileage traveled on my bike (MTB for now...hopefully the trike soon), and optimistically weight loss.

After a brief google search, I found this webpage.

Their low end trikes start at $799. I've seen a couple of these around, and I'd be tempted to pick one up if I had the funds and didn't have piles of student loans already.

Yes I have seen those, but I'm concerned with the hills around here that the 3 or 7 (8?) speed versons won't give me the right gear set to climb them.
